BLOORVIEW SCHOOL AUTHORITY SCHOOL COUNCIL
PLEASE CONSIDER JOINING THE 2015 – 2016 COUNCIL!
School councils play an increasingly important role in Ontario’s education system. The purpose of a school council is, through active participation of parents, to improve pupil achievement and to enhance the accountability of the education system to parents. A school council’s primary means of achieving its purpose is by making recommendations in accordance with Ministry Regulations and Board Policy to the principal.
We welcome new parents; this a great way to get involved in the Bloorview School Authority community!
School council members include elected parents/guardians of students enrolled in the school, teaching and non-teaching staff representatives, community representative, the Principal and Vice Principal. Student representatives may be appointed. All members are equal partners, with parents forming the majority. The chair is a parent elected by the full council. The term of office for all school council positions is one year.
NOMINATIONS and ELECTION:
Nomination forms shall be filed by all parent-candidates for elected positions on the school council. Parents may nominate themselves or other parents. Our council can have a maximum of 11 parent members. Candidates should be prepared to summarize their reasons for running for the school council. If you are interested in joining the school council, or if you would like to nominate another parent, please return the attached nomination form by Thursday September 24th. If more than eleven nominations are received then an election will be held. School council elections must be held within the first 30 days of school. If an election is required I will provide further information regarding the candidates and procedures. The election, if necessary, will be held on September 30th.
SHOOL COUNCIL MEETINGS:
Meetings are held a minimum of four times per year and are open to the public. Minutes are kept and all financial transactions are recorded.
MANDATE OF THE COUNCIL:
School council members are asked to objectively represent and communicate the views of the community, maintaining a school-wide perspective on all issues.
