Whipper Billy Watson Education Bursary

This bursary was founded by employees of the former Canadian Airlines International.

Purpose

This bursary has been established to assist students with physical disabilities in full-time study at an Ontario College of Applied Arts & Technology.

Two bursaries are granted each year to one male and one female applicant who demonstrate potential for studies at the Community College level. Each successful applicant receives a $2,000 bursary.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

  • be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  • register for September classes and in the first year of an Ontario College of Applied Arts & Technology as a full-time student;
  • have a physical disability which severely restricts their physical activities;
  • have a demonstrated commitment to academic study;
  • have demonstrated leadership and community service;
  • have demonstrated participation in extra-curricular activities.

The application form must be completed and accompanied by the following documents:

  • a copy of proof of the applicant's citizenship, such as a Canadian birth certificate, a certificate of Canadian citizenship, or a Canadian Immigration Record;
  • a copy of the applicant's most recent secondary school transcript;
  • a one-page letter from the applicant outlining his or her qualifications for the award;
  • an academic reference from an educator familiar with the applicant;
  • a personal reference from an individual familiar with the applicant's outstanding qualities and community service; and
  • a medical report which clarifies the nature of the disability and its implications for learning.

Selection Procedure

A committee will meet in June to select the successful applicant. All applicants will be informed of the committee's decision.

It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that all documents are forwarded to Bloorview School Authority the due date. Bloorview School Authority is not responsible for lost or incomplete applications. Applicants withouth supporting documentation will not be considered. Please do not send originals.
